Italian Serie A side AS Roma have included a fun new feature on the replicas of their new third kit: a morph crest.
The club unveiled the new kits on Thursday, just before the men’s side took to the field wearing them in their Europa League game against Finnish side HJK Helsinki.
As seen in the Twitter video below, depending on the viewing angle, the crest on the replica version of the kit changes from an ‘ASR’ monogram within a circle – a crest the club used to last seen on kits in 1960 – to similar crest as used between 2000 and 2013.
On AS Roma official online storethe list of replica version of the kit reads as follows:
“This version of the AS Roma 2022-23 Third Kit features a beautiful detail that gives it a unique and original character: the crest applied to the chest is a double-reflected image. Depending on the angle you look at it , it displays the ASR logo or the classic coat of arms with the wolf, a feature that can only be found on this variant of the new third jersey, which will delight fans and collectors alike.
The list for the authentic “elite” version makes no mention of the ridge, and photos from Thursday’s game showed the “ASR” ridge visible from all angles shown. UEFA and FIFA rules would almost certainly prohibit a morph ridge in game action.
The front and sleeves of the kit itself are covered in black, gray and pink interlacing of modern shapes [that] reflects the fierce loyalty of Roma’s wolf pack. The crew neck is solid black and the wide black cuffs contain a pink vertical stripe edged in white.
The back of the kit is solid black for readability of names and numbers. These are printed in pink with white outlines.
The shorts that go with the jersey are black with pink stripes on the sides. The socks are also black with pink vertical stripes on the sides.
The new kits worked for AS Roma on Thursday as they beat HJK Helsinki 3-0.
