The Arizona branch of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is partnering with Hoku Props to create a custom-made Lich King costume for a fan who has overcome leukemia.
World of Warcraft and costumes go hand in hand, with hundreds of iconic characters, outfits and armor sets to choose from. A World of Warcraft fan saw his dream come true when the Make-A-Wish Foundation helped him dress up in a custom-made Lich King costume with the help of Hoku Props.
Luke is a World of Warcraft Arizona fan who was forced to battle leukemia amid the coronavirus pandemic. Not only did he endure the hardships, he triumphed – Luke recently managed to push his cancer into remission.
The Arthas Lich King Armor Replica consists of 21 custom-made pieces that were perfectly sized over three fittings. The armor itself was started before the pandemic and during Luke’s battle with leukemia, taking 40 months – almost three and a half years – in total to complete. The costume itself appears to be high quality, but not too bulky.
The Lich King costume was commissioned by the Make-A-Wish Foundation and built by Hoku Props, a cosplay and prop design studio with an impressive gallery of video game and anime costumes and props. Led by cosplay duo Chad and Sammy Hoku, the group has created several impressive costumes ranging from Dante to the devil may cry series and Trevor Belmont and Sypha from the Castlevania To display. They have also created medals, trophies and banners for several eSports events and cosplay contests.
Luke’s father, Neil, has shared more information about Luke’s battle with leukemia. He was diagnosed when he was 17, shortly before the Make-A-Wish Foundation launched the project. According to Neil, he and his older sister were both diagnosed with debilitating cancer, and both beat it after two years of chemotherapy. He also showed off some fantastic additional images of the suit which feature a replica of Frostmourne.
World of Warcraft fans loved Luke’s costume and his success story. The triumph of Luke and his family over cancer is an inspiration to everyone, both inside and outside the Warcraft community. Many fans took the opportunity to congratulate him on his health, naming him “Invincible” as the iconic mount of Wrath of the Lich King celebrity.
World of Warcraft recently announced Wrath of the Lich King come to Classic waiters. Alpha testing for the beloved expansion’s launch is coming soon, with beta and launch expected to take place before the end of the year.
