TownNews and Tekan announce an exclusive partnership allowing TownNews to become the content management system (CMS) and associated technology stack for members of a new coalition of Canadian publishers.
For TownNews, the exclusive partnership opportunity with Tekan provides a launch pad for major expansion into the Canadian market. TownNews is the leading media CMS in the United States, but has had, to date, a limited presence in Canada.
Tekan is a new venture, formed as a coalition of Canadian publishers that will scale across the country to strengthen its position in the digital advertising market and identify cost savings in systems and technology.
TownNews’ solution set was carefully benchmarked against four other CMS vendors before gaining approval from Tekan. BLOX CMS is TownNews’ mature, proprietary multimedia publishing system, powering nearly 2,000 websites, and BLOX Total CMS is used to design approximately 1,000 print publications, helping publishers improve production efficiency. The TownNews stack includes advanced audience and digital subscription technology, accelerating publishers’ subscription revenue growth; advanced analytics platform; replica electronic editions; native apps; integrated newsletter via email and social media applications, a video management system; and applications for streaming (OTT).
“TownNews is honored and proud to have been selected by Tekan as the CMS of choice after an extensive vetting process. We strongly believe in Tekan’s mission and believe it will serve as a model for other countries,” said Brad. Ward, CEO of City News.
“We are excited to enter into an exclusive agreement to deliver the benefits that scale can deliver by reducing costs, eliminating ‘technical debt’ and enabling new features and functionality to increase revenue that would otherwise be out of reach. reach for many publishers,” said Doug Clarke. , president of Tekan.
“Torstar is excited to become the first Canadian publisher to sign up with Tekan for the TownNews suite of solutions,” said Paul Rivett, president and co-owner of Torstar.
Through this partnership, Tekan will become the exclusive provider of TownNews technology in Canada. Tekan is a newly formed, publisher-serving, publisher-owned Canadian company based in Toronto. Based in East Moline, Illinois, TownNews is majority owned by US media company Lee Enterprises.
