WHITE PLAINS, NY — Lew Sherr has been named president and chief executive officer and executive director of the USTA.
The U.S. national tennis governing body announced the hire on Tuesday, saying Sherr would start on May 2. He has worked for the association for 13 years, the last decade as Chief Revenue Officer.
Sherr will work with the USTA Board of Directors to set the growth strategy for tennis in the United States and to ensure the sport continues its trend toward an increasingly diverse player and fanbase.
Sherr helped drive all USTA revenue streams to record highs, including overall sponsorship, broadcast revenue, and attendance and box office revenue.
“Lew is the right person to lead the USTA and the sport of tennis,” said board chairman Mike McNulty. “He is an empathetic leader who has proven that he can build, develop and motivate teams, and that he can design and implement successful growth strategies. Equally important, he has demonstrated a great ability to establish relationships that foster trust and energize cultures.”
Prior to the USTA, Sherr worked for Madison Square Garden, Time Warner Global Marketing and Clear Channel Advantage. He began his professional career with a seven-year stint at Wilson Sporting Goods Company.
